Is
Mini-Mite sign up during the normal registration times - I noticed a
couple of other dates mentioned in the calendar?
Our general player registration (all levels) this year is on Sept 12
and 14 from 6:30-9pm held at Rink 2 (multi purpose building 2 Marathon
Park). Mini mites are welcome to register then if convenient for them.
We will hold another registration just for mini mites on Oct 16 and again on
Oct 30 at our annual mini mite informational meeting where we will hand out equipment and
have a parent informational meeting for the mini mite program. We will
continue to accept mini mites any time during the season by contacting
our mini mite coordinator or any board member. Bottom line: Mini mites are
welcome to register at any registration session and very important to attend
the Oct 30 meeting with your mini mite in attendance.
Do I need to bring anything else with me beside the registration form
and check for sign-up on Sept 12.
You can pre-print the registration form off the web site or pick one
up at registration. There are 5 parts to the form: information sheet, registration form,
USA Hockey Consent to Treat form, and a medical history form, and
Liability Waiver. Your check or cash registration fee
should be paid at registration. We also will explain your fund raising
obligation at registration which for all levels this year involves the
sale of raffle tickets, making a commitment to work in our concession
stand and a volunteer fee which can be earned back. All you really need
to bring to registration is your checkbook - all other forms and
information will be provided.
What equipment do I need to buy separately for mini mites other
than hockey skates - like helmet, gloves, etc?
MCYH provides all equipment for mini mites except 3 things : skates -
stick - mouth guard. This season each mini mite will be provided an
equipment bag for their equipment. All equipment / bag supplied by MCYH
will need to be returned at the end of the season on a specified night.
Sticks will not be used at the first few practices. Our mini mite
coordinator will provide information on sticks and when they need to
start bringing them to practice.
If I need to buy a helmet, where would you recommend I get one?
There are several sporting good stores in the Wausau
area that sell hockey equipment such as: Goal-Line Golf and Hockey,
Play-it-Again Sports, or Dunham's Sporting Goods.
Do I need to get a fitted mouth guard for a Mini-Mite?
Mouth guards are not required at this age but a good idea. The
helmets have a face guard but teeth can be jarred from contact when
falling etc. A small mouth guard with a strap so it can be attached to
the face guard of the helmet is preferred (prevents dropping on the ice
or loss). We have a list of dental providers on our web site who can
provide custom mouth guards for our players. Mouth guards can also be
purchased at sports outlets and molded at home . The sooner a player
gets used to using a mouth guard the better.
Do mini mites get their equipment and team schedules on registration
night?
Equipment handout is scheduled for Oct 30 at the rink as part of
the mini mite information meeting. The exact time will be posted on the
web site. We will have a staff to work with the players on fitting them
properly and to show them how to wear the equipment. The first couple of
practices will be announced that evening and will most likely be
starting in early/mid November. A complete season practice schedule will
not be available. We schedule our practice ice about 2-4 weeks ahead and
post on the web.
Will all mini-mite practices be at Marathon Park?
All mini mite practices will be at Marathon Park on rink 1 or 2.
We try to hold practices on week day evenings. Usually 2 per week, 1
hour each. It's a good idea to arrive about 1/2 hour early to allow time for
putting on equipment. Practice time is precious so we want the kids ready
to hit the ice when the rink door is opened. Many kids dress at home so
they just need to put their skates on at the rink - this can eliminate
confusion and lost equipment. The schedule times/days may fluctuate
slightly from week to week and we recommend checking the web site
frequently. The mini mite coordinator will also try to communicate any
changes - our web site has become our main communication tool - please
check at least weekly.
This is our first year skating 'in-house' at the mite level. What equipment
will we need?
For the early practices, you will need at minimum skates, helmet, stick,
and gloves. It is suggested that you just outfit your player completely as
you will need to do so at some point. Most of this equipment can be purchased
used at either The Goal Line Hockey Shop or Play It Again Sports. DON'T
spend money on the top of the line gear. It simply is not necessary. Here is a full list of equipment: Shin Guards, Protective Cup, Hockey Socks w/ garter
belt, Breezers, Skates, Shoulder Pads, Elbow Pads, Jersey, Helmet
w/ mouth guard (Please put his name on the helmet with a piece of tape and
marker), and Stick.
